Re: 2007-08 New Junior Faculty Award Program and Eligibility Requirements

This memo serves as a reminder, that the New Junior Faculty Award sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research is available again in the 2007-08 academic year. As you know, the purpose of the award is to assist new tenure-track assistant professors in establishing their research activities. Please note that eligible recipients may receive up to $7,500 in support. The application deadline for Stage II eligible faculty is November 9, 2007. Extended to November 16, 2007.

Please see the New Junior Faculty Award 2007-08 revised program description for further eligibility information. If you have any questions regarding the award or eligibility, please contact me directly at ext. 3188.

It is our understanding that the program is a very positive factor in the recruitment of new faculty. If you mention the award in written correspondence in recruitment letters for 2008-09, we suggest the following language be used: “The Office of the Vice President for Research offers a New Faculty Award program to support junior faculty as they establish their scholarly activities at the UO. Faculty who do not receive other start-up funding from the Office of the Vice President for Research will also be eligible to apply for up to $7500 to fund research expenditures or to support a faculty summer stipend.”
